Santa Clara's Municipal Electric Utility to Standardize Enterprise Data Infrastructure on the PI System

Apr 18, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the City of Santa Clara's municipal electric utility, has announced that they would be taking OSIsoft's PI System, their enterprise data infrastructure, to the next level by signing an enterprise agreement (EA) and incorporating it into their Smart Grid initiatives.

According to release, with this new agreement, the PI System will be supporting distribution automation and integration of meter data. OSIsoft's data management infrastructure will collect metering data and subsequently integrating and correlating this data with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and operational data.

"With the PI System as our data infrastructure, we now have the ability to be more proactive and innovative as an electric utility," said Dennis P. Steffani, P.E., Senior Control/Communications Engineer at SVP. "Adopting OSIsoft's technology, on an enterprise scale, will give us the confidence to not only ensure the reliability and safety of our services, but also respond quickly to the information needs of everyday decision making." "SVP has always been forward thinking when it comes to data infrastructure," says Ann Moore, Director - Industry and Market Principals at OSIsoft. "We are very excited about SVP's decision of taking our joint relationship to the next level to apply OSIsoft's products and services in their state-of-the-art initiatives." OSIsoft delivers the PI System for management of real-time data and events.
