Altera and AppliedMicro to collaborate on joint solutions for high growth data centre market

Apr 16, 2013 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR), a provider of programmable solutions for system and semiconductor companies, and Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (Nasdaq:AMCC), a provider of computing and connectivity solutions for next-generation cloud infrastructure and data centres, on Monday announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding which is designed to result in the joint development and marketing of optimised solutions for data centre applications.

This strategic cooperation initiative is expected to enable the two companies to combine advanced Altera FPGAs with silicon solutions from AppliedMicro, including its full line of connectivity and ARM 64-bit X-Gene Server on a Chip products.

According to the companies, the collaboration will include shared efforts on system solution definition, co-development of reference designs and supporting software development. The resulting designs will combine the robust silicon and software from AppliedMicro with the performance and flexibility advantages of Altera's FPGAs.
