Governor of RI Identifies Atrion CEO as RIEDC Board of Directors Nominee

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 15 April 2013 Release date- 12042013 - Warwick, R.I. - Citing active transformation of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) and a commitment to the state's key industries, Governor Lincoln D. Chafee today announced Oscar T. 'Tim' Hebert, CEO of Atrion, as one of three new nominees for the RIEDC Board of Directors.

'We are in the midst of transforming the RIEDC,' Governor Chafee said, 'and putting together a Board that understands Rhode Island's most important industries is a big part of that.' As a leader in the field of information technology and services, Atrion has held a long-standing bond to Rhode Island. With 25 years of business and a new state-of-the-art headquarters facility in Warwick, the company has seen incredible growth; has been awarded for business excellence in local and national news outlets; and a recognized job creator, with a nationally praised apprentice program.

For any organization, those at the helm define the company's vision and core values. Throughout his tenure as CEO, Tim Hebert has led the company through milestones of achievement; nurtured a business culture of knowledge-share; and represents a commitment to the Rhode Island community. He serves as President and Chairman of the Rhode Island Technology Industries Association (Tech Collective); as a member of the RI Economic Policy Council and the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council (RIPEC); and continues to serve as a Year Up Providence Mentor.

Unlike conventional CEO offices, Hebert's glass-wall and open-door policy encourages employees to stop in; and many did after hearing word of the nomination.

Chatting with a growing number of staff who passed by to offer encouragement and congratulations, Hebert talked about the responsibility of business leaders in building a legacy for Rhode Island. 'In calm water, every ship has a good captain,' Hebert said, 'The truer test of leadership rises in the roughest waters.' He described that major effort and hard work is required in 'preparing our entire workforce pipeline, from kindergarten to retirement for the realities of a new economy.' As the conversation grew, one staff member asked 'are you nervous about the press and visibility associated with the RIEDC over the past year ' In response, Hebert paraphrased Thomas Payne's famous phrase, 'These are the times that try our souls, and,' he said, 'I believe all business leaders must rise in the service of their state - our state - Rhode Island.' 'Extreme challenges, like the many ahead of us, are not easily conquered,' Hebert said, 'yet we have this solace with us: the harder the conflict; the more glorious the triumph.' Hebert went on to discuss the positivity he sees in the passion of supporting existing businesses in Rhode Island; paying attention to the job creators; focusing on the ease of doing business; and - looking ahead to the future - he said: 'leadership focus will give the value we all desire for the state. Our collective health and success as Rhode Island businesses should always be highly rated.' The nominations that join Atrion CEO Tim Hebert include Judith Diaz, Director of Community Health for Lifespan; and Elizabeth Francis, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Council on the Humanities, representing the industries of information technology, healthcare, and arts & culture, respectively.

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation is the full service, official economic development organization for the state of Rhode Island. A quasi-public agency, the Corporation serves as a government and community resource to help streamline the business expansion in, and relocation to, Rhode Island. The agency assists companies with commercial real estate, business financing, workforce training and other relevant issues. RIEDC's leadership team includes senior management members of the corporation as well as the board of directors, which meets once a month.
