[April 12, 2013] iFi Smart Tag Locates Lost Keys, Tracks Misplaced Phones and Purses Tweet Apr 12, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Lost keys, left behind smartphones, and misplaced purses are now a thing of the past with the new iFi Systems Smart Tag, a product that electronically connects with Apple or Android devices with a tiny electronic key fob. Paired with a compatible smartphone or tablet, the iFi Systems Smart Tag can instantly alert a user if a cell phone and set of keys are separated by more than 30 feet. The iFi Smart Tag can be attached to car keys, a purse, or virtually anything of value that you want to monitor. Losing one's phone or keys is one of modern's most stressful happenings. A St. Louis study in 2011 by Russell Research found that one-in-four respondents had lost their keys or had been locked out of their home at least once that year. According to a release, with the iFi Smart Tag, a user can pair a smartphone to the small and discrete Smart Tag and be automatically notified when the two become separated. The iFi Smart Tag acts as a two-way loss prevention pager via Bluetooth technology, alerting the users when one has moved too far from the other. With smartphones valued at hundreds of dollars and the private data stored inside worth even more, consumers must be on high alert for loss and theft. A survey done by Strategy One Research U.S. in 2010 showed that 19 cell phones go missing in the U.S. every 10 seconds. "We created the iFi Smart Tag to work in unison with other Bluetooth devices so that you aren't limited to using just one Bluetooth accessory at a time. Unlike GPS tags, each iFi Smart Tag communicates directly with your device and does not require a monthly subscription. After downloading the free "iFi Smart Tag" app (available for free from the Apple App store or Google Play marketplace) and pairing it with your iOS or Android device, the Smart Tag works by using your smartphone to communicate via Bluetooth with one or more iFi Smart Tags. These Smart Tags can be attached to almost any item you want to protect and form a security zone between your tagged item and your device. If the iFi Smart Tag or cellular device moves outside of the security zone of about 30 feet, a security alarm will sound to alert you of potential loss or theft. The app also sends a Google map notification of the tag's last GPS location and time of separation. The iOS iFi Smart Tag is designed to work with Apple iOS 5 and higher, and is compatible with the iPhone 5, 4S, iPad3, and iPad Mini models. The Android iFi Smart Tag works with Android 3.2 and higher, including the latest Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 with Bluetooth low energy technology. The Android compatible Smart Tag, includes a 3 volt Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery.
