Mandoki film snags 11 Ariel nominations

Mexico City, Apr 11, 2013 (EFE via COMTEX) -- Director Luis Mandoki's "La vida precoz y breve de Sabina Rivas" leads the nominations for the Ariel - Mexico's equivalent of the Oscar - with 11.

But the Hollywood veteran's tale about a young Central American woman seeking a better life was left out of the battle for film of the year honors among "El premio," "Los ultimos cristeros" and "La demora." "El premio" will be up for a total of 10 awards when the Ariels are presented at a gala on May 28.

Nominated in the category of best actor are: Hernan Mendoza ("Despues de Lucia"), Roberto Sosa ("El fantastico mundo de Juan Orol"), Francisco Cruz ("Entre la noche y el dia") and Carlos Vallarino ("La demora").

Tessa Ia ("Despues de Lucia"), Paula Galinelli Hertzog ("El premio"), Ursula Pruneda ("El sueño de Lu"), Roxana Blanco ("La demora") and Greisy Mena ("La vida precoz y breve de Sabina Rivas") will vie for the best actress award.

The ceremony will include the presentation of the Gold Ariel for lifetime achievement to actress Columba Dominguez, actor Mario Almada and filmmaker Rafael Corkidi, organizers told Efe. EFE ea/dr
