Arqiva Expands High Definition TV Services Offer In EuropeApr 11, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Arqiva, the communications infrastructure and media services company, has announced the acquisition of an additional European satellite distribution platform, as it expands into new markets in Europe where demand for high definition TV is rising. Arqiva is targeting Poland, Greece and Italy with the new platform, which will meet demand from broadcasters for an independent operator of a HD satellite transponder. As part of its expansion plans, Arqiva is also establishing a fibre point-of-presence (PoP) in Warsaw. This will be complementary to the company's expansion into the Polish market, offering the ability to bring channels back to the UK for onward distribution. Arqiva's new point-of-presence means it can deliver services to Cyfrowy Polsat, the new nC+ platforms, Polish Digital Terrestrial TV multiplexes, as well as Cable TV companies and IPTV platforms. Arqiva also has satellite distribution services for content distribution across Poland and Europe. Barrie Woolston, Director - Commercial Director, Satellite & Media, said: "This is an excellent opportunity for broadcasters and contents owners to provide HD services into key European markets. As an independent operator Arqiva is committed to supporting our customers' expansion plans across Europe." Notes to Editors 1. Arqiva currently operates 3 multiplex platforms carrying SD channels on Hot Bird, which is a premium location for European video distribution and is the satellite location for DTH in Italy (Sky Italia), Poland (Cyfra+, PolSat, & N) and Greece (Nova). 2. Arqiva's network and services are specifically designed for use by broadcasters, which is Arqiva's core market and focus. This fourth platform will be operated in DVBS-2.
