Minnesota SharePoint User Group Celebrates 100th Meeting

Today the Minnesota SharePoint User Group (MNSPUG) reaches a milestone by celebrating its 100^th meeting. Started in May of 2004 by the SharePoint team at Inetium (now Avtex), the MNSPUG was one of the first of its kind in the world and remains one of the largest and longest-running SharePoint user groups attracting over 2,500 attendees since launch.

The user group originated out of the desire to create a community focused on how to best leverage SharePoint, Microsoft's (News - Alert) flagship collaboration and productivity platform. "When we first started the user group, we didn't really know what to expect," said Eric Raarup, Chief Marketing Technology Officer at Avtex (News - Alert) and one of the founders of the group. "It's exciting to see how the passion for SharePoint in Minnesota has helped to develop a thriving community."

Since 2004, the group has been meeting monthly, bringing the local SharePoint community together to share best prctices, tips & tricks, and ideas on the various uses of the SharePoint platform. Featuring SharePoint experts not only from Microsoft, but Microsoft partners and the SharePoint user community as a whole, the group has hosted countless speakers covering all aspects of the platform.

"SharePoint is a powerful solution with capabilities that are both broad and deep," said Don Donais, Consultant at Avtex and current MNSPUG leader. "We use the feedback gathered from each monthly meeting to help focus on key areas of interest for future sessions, whether it be document management, collaboration, business intelligence, or some other facet of SharePoint."

In addition to Avtex, the user group is sponsored by Microsoft and Benchmark Learning, a local learning provider that offers training services on Microsoft technologies.
