Wildcat Corbin Easter caught two in the outfield to quickly end the Villains' turn to bat at the bottom of the third inning. slideshow KERNERSVILLE -- The Wildcats got out big and fast in their game against the Villains at Bishop McGuinness High School on Tuesday afternoon. After picking up an early lead, the Wildcats played strong throughout the evening and served the Villains a 16-0 blowout on their home field. Wildcats Coach Kirk Goodson said his team came out very "focused." It showed on the plate, too, as the team got big hits throughout the night that consistently helped to bring runners in. "I was pleased with the way we swung the bats," he said. Goodson also said that Zach McGee did a great job pitching, as he filled in for the team's standby, Jacob Craver. "He pitched really well," he said. "He threw fast balls down in the zone and worked the ball in and out." Over the first to innings, the Wildcats cruised to an early 5-0 lead. When Bishop took to the plate at the bottom of second, they had a hard time landing a hit. McGee quickly struck out Bishop's batters. At the top of the third inning, Gavin Goodson hit the ball out to right field for a single that brought in Junior Snow and put the team up 6-0. Later on in the third, Jacob Washer had a double out to left field, which brought in David Hughart. Bishop had some good hits at the bottom of the third inning, but good fielding by West Stokes' Corbin Easter quickly ended their turn at the plate. Easter caught two in the outfield to end the third. Wildcat Craver stole home on a wild pitch at the top of the fourth inning to put the team up 10-0. The Wildcats scored another four runs before their turn to bat was over in the fourth. In the final inning, the Wildcats were already up 14-0. Goodson hit a single that brought in Brodrick Rierson. Then, Hughart hit a single that brought in snow. With the Wildcats up 16-0 at the end of their turn to bat in the fifth, officials decided to call the game early and the Wildcats walked away with the win for the evening. The Wildcats improve to 7-1 in the conference this season.
