Computer software containing attendance records breached at Island high school

(Canadian Press DataFile Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. _ The English Language school board in Prince Edward Island is reviewing a security breach of a computer program which records attendance and marks at a Summerside high school.

The board says it became aware late Wednesday that the software program StudentsAchieve had been breached at Three Oaks high school.

Board Superintendent Cynthia Fleet says teachers have been comparing records of the data they entered into the system to see if there are differences.

She says none have been identified, other than one change in attendance that alerted a teacher to the issue.

Fleet says the board is reviewing existing security safeguards for the program and will bring in changes to ensure the breach doesn't reoccur.

StudentsAchieve is a comprehensive classroom technology used across the country that gives teachers, students and parents attendance and mark information.
