Sky no limitApr 01, 2013 (BRW - ABIX via COMTEX) -- NewSat has secured funding of $US611 million ($A587.3 million) to launch the Jabiru-2, its first satellite. The Australian listed firm received backing from local institutions and overseas export credit agencies. The Jabiru-2 will be Australia's first commercial satellite and will use the sought-after "Ka-band" orbit. The launch is due to occur in mid-2015. The satellite is being built in the US by Lockheed Martin. NewSat's capacity has been used by the US Defense Department since 2008.
