China Mobile Wins 4G Spectrum Bidding in Hong Kong

Mar 20, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- China Mobile Ltd. (NYSE: CHL, SEHK: 0941) and three other companies altogether won a 2.5/2.6GHz 4G frequency spectrum auctioned by the Communications Authority of Hong Kong S.A.R. for CNY 1.54 billion yesterday.

The other three companies include SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings Limited (SEHK: 0315), CSL Limited and Genius Brand, which is a consortium of PCCW Limited (SEHK:0008) and Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HKSE: 0215).

The price mentioned before was about one time higher than the base price of the spectrum. A 50MHz spectrum was included in the bidding, and the time-limit of the license is 15 years. Meanwhile, two lines of 10MHz spectrum were won by SmarTone for CNY 640 million. Noticeably, China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (NYSE: CHU, SEHK: 0762, and SHSE: 600050) lost in its first participant in such a bidding.

Hutchison Telecom disclosed its 2012 annual report on the same day, which says that the net profit increased 20% year on year to HKD 1.227 billion, and the earnings per share were HKD 0.2546.
