KBCore Patient Safety Evaluation System to be Demonstrated at the 2013 HIMSS ONC Interoperability Showcase

Houston, Texas, Mar 04, 2013 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- CRG Medical, Inc., developers of web-based healthcare applications, today announced the company will be demonstrating its award-winning KBCore(TM) CF (Common Formats) Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES) during the 2013 HIMSS Conference in New Orleans. KBCore is a unique Web-based proactive and preventive core knowledge building PSES, designed and built for use by hospitals participating in Patient Safety Organizations (PSOs). KBCore will be part of the HIMSS ONC Interoperability Showcase(TM), an interactive demonstration of live clinical information systems that demonstrates standards-based interoperability and a dedication to making health information exchange happen for providers around the world.

As the effects of the Affordable Care Act become more widespread, KBCore's platform provides a vital tool for PSOs, hospitals, Health Insurance Exchanges (HIXs) and other organizations seeking to comply with Federal recommendations about patient safety reports. Starting in January 2014, hospitals with more than 50 beds will be encouraged to participate in a PSO if they wish to receive payment from health plans in the HIX. KBCore makes use of existing tools already in place at many hospitals and healthcare organizations to extract data on patient safety events and generate predefined reports in seconds. Users can choose to submit a fully identified or an anonymous report.

Douglas Dotan, CRG Medical's president and CEO, says, "The KBCore CF platform enables instant, real-time documentation on patient safety instances and outcomes. This in turn will foster patient-centered care, engaging the entire healthcare team and staff in communicating and sharing patient care and safety knowledge. By embracing these methods and tools, we anticipate that the quality of patient care will improve, healthcare costs will decrease and physicians and other caregivers will work in safer environments." KBCore recently won first place in the Office of the National Coordinator's (ONC's) "Purple Button" Patient Safety Reporting System Challenge 2.0 for its platform-agnostic medical event reporting system. The solution uses either NwHIN Direct Project or an HL7 interface to extract relevant data from electronic health records (as a CCD document) and automatically populate the common formats forms. The KBCore LAM (linguistics analytical module) then searches the institutional databases and a medication database to populate common formats detail reports.

By removing inefficient paper forms, KBCore integrates an easy-to-use Web-based electronic recording system with diagnostic capabilities to help caregivers analyze all contributing factors in any medical outcome and recognize best practice interventions. The solution enables healthcare providers to visualize data through aggregatable, predefined reports that enable decision-making in seconds rather than the hours or days of traditional manual methods.

For a first-hand demo of KBCore CF, visit CRG Medical in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase, located in the La Nouvelle Ballroom (Level 2) of the Ernst N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. HIMSS 2013 takes place March 3-7.
