Nognz and TELUS Partner in Innovative Healthy Brain Program; TELUS Engages High Potential Employees in Training Initiative for Peak Mental Performance

WEST VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Feb 28, 2013 (Marketwire via COMTEX) -- TELUS is now providing programs created and delivered by Nognz Brain Fitness to enhance the mental skillsets of more than 900 high potential employees (2012) within its workforce. These programs and exercises help employees to optimize workplace performance, build mental endurance and foster innovation. The programs are evidence based, challenging and fun.

Research in the field of neuroscience has proven that the process of 'neuroplasticity' enables the human brain to adapt and re-wire itself no matter what your age. Living a healthy brain lifestyle and exercising your brain with stimulating mental challenges helps to improve five key brain functions: memory, focus, critical thinking, coordination and word skills.

"Brain fitness is just as important as physical fitness in terms of maintaining a healthy workforce," says Dan Pontefract, senior director - Learning and Collaboration, at TELUS. "Nognz has delivered on the business goals and objectives that TELUS set forth and their programs align closely with our company values of learning, development and innovation. Presently offered within our virtual collaboration environment the nognz programs are engaging, relevant and fun." "It has been great to work with such a forward thinking organization like TELUS that is committed to providing the best learning opportunities for their employees," says Dr. Justin Davis, Nognz's Scientific Director. "The program is designed to keep their team informed of discoveries in neuroscience research and explain how to apply them to help achieve peak mental performance, both in and out of the workplace." Nognz Healthy Brain Program participants can benefit in many ways - increases in productivity, improved performance against goals, better problem solvers, decision makers and innovators. A healthy brain lifestyle can delay the onset of memory loss and slow the progression of cognitive decline, leading to a better quality of life for employees after retirement and a reduction in the healthcare 'legacy costs' of providing for an aging workforce.

In 2012, 93 per cent of the TELUS Leadership NOW participants were satisfied to very satisfied with the nognz workshops, 75 per cent of the participants felt that their job performance would improve as a result of the nognz healthy brain program, 77 per cent of respondents believe the nognz program will improve their ability to progress toward their career goals and 91 per cent said they would recommend it to a colleague.
