BRIEF: You can watch Pope Benedict's departure live on TV

Feb 28, 2013 (Belleville News-Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- For first time in history, the final moments of the current pope's reign will be broadcast live on television.

EWTN, the Global Catholic Network, will televise Pope Benedict XVI's final day as pope, Thursday, live from the Vatican.

"The last day of Pope Benedict, he's going to be followed by TV cameras and his last days will be broadcast on Italian TV," explained Monsignor John T. Myler, spokesman for the Diocese of Belleville. "That's never happened before. We will be watching history." Locally, you can watch the events live on EWTN.

If you'd like to see the Meeting with the Cardinals, wake up early or set the DVR for 3:30 a.m. The Pope's Departure will air at 9:30 a.m. The Closing of the Main Door of Papal Residence in Castel Gandolfo will begin at 12:45 p.m.

Castel Gondolfo is a small Italian town about 15 miles southeast of Rome. It has served as the summer residence of popes will receive Benedict XVI on Thursday.

The Pope's Departure will re-air at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday.
