BRIEF: Power remains out for parts of Wichita State campus

Feb 27, 2013 (The Wichita Eagle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Parts of Wichita State University were still being plagued by intermittent power outages at midafternoon Wednesday.

WSU spokesman Joe Kleinsasser said some buildings were closing down for a short period, while others are using generators to operate. The outages have "come and gone" since early this morning, Kleinsasser said.

Classes are still being held.

The problem is with the underground service feeding the campus, although the exact cause hasn't been determined.

"We are going cable by cable, equipment by equipment trying to determine the source of the problem," Westar Energy spokeswoman Erin La Row said. "Being underground makes it more of a challenge to find the course." Power had been restored to more than half the campus by 2 p.m., she added. The outage only affects WSU.

Most of the campus sustained the power outage shortly after 8 a.m. Power to the south of the campus was initially restored between 8:50 and 9:20 a.m.
