CIAC HOCKEY TOURNAMENT: Decision on proposed elite Division I postponed to March 7Feb 27, 2013 (New Haven Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Ice Hockey Committee has been working on its plan to restructure the three divisions in high school boys' hockey with the ultimate goal of creating an elite Division I that will be comprised of the state's top 12 teams for next season. Coaches, players and parents are anxious to find out what the final restructuring will look like but will have to wait another week to find out. The Ice Hockey Committee was expected to submit its final proposal to the CIAC's Board of Control for final approval on Thursday but the Board of Control meeting has been moved to March 7. Tweaks to the restructuring process are still being considered. "Our (Ice Hockey) Committee is meeting Thursday at 11 a.m. to discuss the other proposals we have received from coaches regarding the restructure and to work on a few changes to the original proposal," said Milford coach Sal Follo, a member of the CIAC Ice Hockey Committee who serves as the coaches' liaison with the CIAC. "The proposal that is approved will be sent to the CIAC board of control March 7t instead of Feb. 28. "So we will see what comes out of this meeting on Thursday. I know myself and the coaches on the committee will do what the coaches suggested at the meeting on Feb. 3." The CIAC Ice Hockey Committee had a special meeting on Feb. 7, inviting all 57 coaches to get their input and suggestions regarding the restructure of divisions. The Ice Hockey Committee believes a change to the division format is needed since the number of teams has gone from 67 to 57 since 2006. "The proposal will be finalized by the Ice Hockey Committee at its next meeting (this week)," said Tom Neagle, chairman of the Ice Hockey Committee. "One thing I can say about the proposal is it reflects the input we received from our coaches via emails, phone calls and at our meeting with them a couple of weeks ago. We, of course, are hoping for a favorable response from the Board of Control when we submit that final proposal."
