BRIEF: Board interviewing principal candidates

ROCK FALLS, Feb 26, 2013 (Daily Gazette - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Montmorency School Board this week is interviewing five candidates for principal to, in part, replace retiring Superintendent John Rosenberry.

The board interviewed a batch of candidates Monday night and will interview another group Wednesday night. The board then will narrow the field to three candidates, who will interview with the board, staff and community members.

One of the five candidates is from within the school district, others are from the area, said Rosenberry, who serves as superintendent and principal of the rural, 300-student school.

He announced his retirement in November. He will retire after July 30.

The board hopes to hire a full-time principal, who within a year or two could obtain a superintendent endorsement and then fill both roles, Rosenberry said. The board likely will have to hire an interim superintendent, he added.

The district advertised the position through the Illinois Association of School Administrators in late January and accepted applications through Feb. 15.

The board hopes to hire a principal within a few weeks, Rosenberry said.

Rosenberry, who has been in education for 30 years, has been the superintendent since 2006.
