Prime Minister inaugurates Universal Service Fund Projects in Sindh - Press Release issued by Universal Service Fund


(Pakistan Official News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Following is the text of press release issued by Universal Service Fund Quote Raja Pervez Ashraf, Prime Minister of Pakistan has said that the present government has undertaken record development schemes worth billion of rupees throughout the country. He was addressing a gathering in Sanghar at the inauguration of Universal Service Fund Projects in Sindh.



He further said that Sanghar District suffered huge losses due to floods and unprecedented rains and government has left no stone unturned to alleviate the sufferings of affected people and will continue its efforts.

CEO-Universal Service Fund and Advisor-Ministry of IT, Dr. Basit Riaz Sheikh briefed the Prime Minister about the projects being run by USF in Sindh. Prime Minister also unveiled a plaque to inaugurate these projects.


It is pertinent to mention here that Universal Service Fund has been vigorously working in Sindh province. Through USF Rural Telecom Project in Mirpur Khas, 213 villages have been provided basic telephony and data services through a subsidy of Rs. 930 Million. Similarly, in Dadu, 426 villages have been provided services through a subsidy of Rs. 250 Million. In Optic Fibre Programme, 17 un-served Tehsils in Sindh have been connected with 1,038 kms of Optic Fibre Cable through a subsidy of Rs. 449 Million. In Southern Telecom Region-1 of Broadband Programme, 77 cities and towns have been connected through a subsidy of Rs. 549 Million along with establishing 82 Educational Broadband Centres (EBCs) and 43 Community Broadband Centres (CBCs).

Overall, the success of USF is evident from the fact that it has provided telecom services to almost 3,600 previously un-served villages. 260 previously un-served towns now have almost 412,000 USF funded broadband connections.

Optic Fibre cable of more than 4,250 KMs has also been laid to connect un-served Tehsils. New initiatives of USF include a Telemedicine project to provide health-care facilities to remote areas and establishment of Universal Tele-Centers for proliferation of e-services. Secretary IT, Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qadir was also present at the ceremony.
