Responsive website by Cyber-Duck is 'future friendly' and backwards compatible

Feb 22, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Award winning digital agency, Cyber-Duck, today launched their 6th iteration of their website with a responsive web design (RWD). The website has been produced so layouts and content fluidly adapt to any screen on virtually any Internet enabled device.

The new website is a bold move by the digital agency, who controversially decided to scrap their own separate dedicated desktop, tablet and smartphone websites. The new website automatically recognises the screen size via media queries and adjusts the content and interfaces via multiple breakpoints. By creating an in-house custom HTML5/CSS grid system and testing the user experience (UX) on multiple devices and technologies, Cyber-Duck have managed to ensure accessibility and content parity for their users.

The web design degrades gracefully for Nokia Symbian feature phones, Kindle Whitepapers, and older Internet browsers whilst progressively enhancing for Apple Retina displays, high resolution tablets and 4K television sets. Features are enhanced depending on the capabilities of the device and hardware that the user is using. The new website also makes the most of device processing power by getting CSS to use the GPU as opposed to the CPU for animations.

To further enhance the loading time on mobile devices, the speed of the new website drastically improved by over 500%. The speed optimisation was achieved by removing the content management system (CMS) where possible and replacing it with a "dynamic route/ static template" system using the PHP framework Laravel.

Danny Bluestone, Cyber-Duck's Managing Director said: "On average we launch a brand new website every 18 months to 'look forward' into the future. This time round, we dreamt of a website that is truly future-friendly that works everywhere from older feature phones right up to the latest devices and high resolution displays. As an agency we need to be sensitive to paradigm shifts within the web development industry and how technology is evolving (based on the principles of Moore's Law). By following our ISO accredited user centred design (UCD) process, we managed to produce a stunning RWD that has future-friendliness at its heart." Cyber-Duck ensured that all members of staff and key clients input was considered and included throughout the production. The team have written an article about the exact reasons for the redesign and how they went about creating their new responsive website design here.

The website launch coincides with Cyber-Duck officially gaining an ISO9001:2008 certification for its quality management system, as the agency continues in its quest to be the leading independent digital agency in the UK.
