BRIEF: Robert Jacob set Sebastopol campaign spending record


Feb 12, 2013 (The Press Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Vice Mayor Robert Jacob raised and spent a record amount of money in winning his seat on the Sebastopol City Council in November, the costliest campaign in city history.



Jacob, founder and chief executive officer of the nonprofit Peace In Medicine marijuana dispensary, raised $35,075 and spent $34,559, according to final campaign statements that were turned in Jan. 31.

John Eder, who also was elected, was second to Jacob in campaign spending, raising $10,640 and spending $12,191.


Incumbent Councilwoman Kathleen Shaffer, who was not re-elected, raised and spent $11,149.

Candidate Kathy Austin raised $5,820 and spent $5,000. Candidate Colleen Fernald stated she would receive and spend less than $1,000.

Sustainable Sebastopol, which supported Shaffer and Austin, raised $3,686 and spent $3,553.

Responsible Citizens for Sebastopol, which supported Measure Y, the half-cent sales tax, raised and spent $1,550.
