Students log on to brush up concepts, take mock tests

Feb 08, 2013 (Hindustan Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Internet has proven to be a goldmine for students preparing for the CBSE board exams. With a series of websites making mock tests and reference material readily available, students now have a plethora of options to test their skills in addition to the already available study material.

Websites such as,,, and now provide extensive material for students.

The websites have not just test material but also tutorials for different subjects.

"Several thousand students from across the world have subscribed to this service. Many a time, students are not able to clarify their doubts in class because they feel hesitant. This tutorial module is very handy and the material is not lifted from the Internet," said a representative.

Principals and teachers maintain that these sites are extremely helpful for students as the available material helps put basic concepts to the test.

"With the exams just a couple of weeks away, most students spend their time on revisions. By now, their concepts should be clear and the more practice they get the better it is for them.

"The online practice material, along with all the other material that is available, is good for testing your concepts. But this must be used as supplementary material and not as substitutes to their main NCERT study material and sample papers," said Usha Ram, principal, Laxman Public School.

Teachers and principals also said that with the exams just a few weeks away, it was time students got into the habit of timing themselves.

"Students also need to focus on being mentally and physically attuned to the board exam pattern now. So they have to make sure that they are capable of sitting through three hours of a test, without taking any break," added Ram.

However, it is not just the study websites which have students acquiring reference and test material for the upcoming board exams. Facebook and other social media sites have also emerged as interactive hubs for students taking the exams.

A Facebook group on CBSE board exams and 'iCBSE' have also come up as popular pages where students have begun to exchange information related to the exam.

"Everyone does the same sample papers. It is important to explore other practice material as well. There is no dearth of sample papers or other study material on the web and social media.

"Most of them require you to sign up but then it is worth it because the kind of practice material available to any student from any stream is exhaustive. If you complete your syllabus and keep doing these papers, it is sufficient for the exams," said Abhishek Mehrish, a student of a prominent south Delhi school.
