BRIEF: Multnomah County Library District unveils new websiteFeb 06, 2013 (The Oregonian - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Multnomah County Library District has launched a new website that includes everything from virtual tours to a full set of research tools. Unveiling of the new site comes as the library's new permanent financing district, approved by voters in November, gets ready to begin operations July 1. Additional money available to the district means restoration of seven-day-a-week library hours. The old website was eight years old, said Jeremy Graybill, the library's marketing and communications director. He called that "an eternity in technology terms." "We're all about giving people more options in experiencing and using their library online," he said. The new site, developed in conjunction with the company BiblioCommons, is completely encrypted and secure in an effort to protect the privacy and confidentiality of library users, Graybill said. It is designed to work on any phone, tablet or desktop computer of any size, he said. The hundreds of events held at the county's downtown library and its satellite branches are listed on the site. Historical archives and online learning resources will also be included.
