Anne Arundel County police have arrested three men in connection with an hour-long robbery spree Monday afternoon at west county shopping centers.
James Thomas Ross, 31, of the 7900 block of Oakwood Road in Glen Burnie; Carroll A. Fulwood, 29, of the 500 block of Crain Highway in Glen Burnie; and Richard R. Phelps, 30, of Baltimore have each been charged with 15 counts each including armed robbery, assault and theft, according to court records.
Police responded to the Sam's Club store in Quarterfield Crossing Shopping Center in Severn shortly after 4:10 p.m. where a 49-year-old woman told officer that two men tried to grab her purse in the parking lot. She fell and was dragged toward a teal vehicle, but the men gave up and got into the vehicle without the purse and fled.
While officers were responding to the parking lot, located in the 400 block of George Clauss Boulevard, two more attacks were reported six miles away in the Arundel Mills mall area in Hanover.
Officers responded to the Cinemark movie theater parking lot around 4:35 p.m., where a 28-year-old man told them two men grabbed his wife's arm and demanded money. One of the men displayed a tire iron, police said.
The man said he grabbed the tire iron and both assailants drove off in a teal Nissan Maxima. The victim provided a tag number and description, police said.
Shortly before 5:15 p.m. officers were called to the 7600 block of Arundel Mills Boulevard, near the Baja Fresh and Safeway parking lot. A 20-year-old man said two men approached him, displayed a tire iron and demanded money.
One of the assailants swung the tire iron at the victim but missed, police said. The men took the victim's iPhone and fled in a Nissan Maxima. The victim was able to provide a tag number in that incident as well, police said.
An investigation led police to a South River marina just off Route 2 near Edgewater where Ross, Fulwood and Phelps were arrested.
