Aviat Networks Continues to Expand its Support Services Capabilities in Africa, Increases Role with MTN Ghana


SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Aviat Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVNW), a leading expert in microwave networking solutions, today announced that it is providing comprehensive Spares Management Services in addition to its AviatCare services to MTN Ghana, a subsidiary of pan-Africa mobile telecom leader MTN Group. Aviat Networks currently provides a comprehensive portfolio of Support Services to MTN Ghana, including Technical Support and Corrective Maintenance in support of the operator's installed base of microwave backhaul equipment. Leveraging a combination of local resources, global support teams and its own ProVision monitoring capabilities Aviat Networks continues to provide substantially improved network availability across components of the network.



The company is now delivering critical replacement parts to MTN Ghana cellular sites faster than was previously possible in order to maximize network availability. AviatCare supports Aviat's Eclipse Packet Node radios that comprise the highest proportion of MTN Ghana's microwave backhaul and plays a crucial role from the access portion of the network to the backbone. Aviat has supplied Eclipse equipment to MTN Ghana since 2007. "Aviat has proven itself as a major network services SLA provider for wireless network transmission equipment, and we are pleased with their level of expertise and performance," says Sa-id Mukhtar Abubakar, SLA Enforcement Controller, Network Group, MTN Ghana. Aviat Networks also provides the ProVision element management system to support network visibility in order for MTN Ghana to monitor and manage its Eclipse microwave backhaul network. With the ProVision management tools, MTN Ghana's network management center remotely controls thousands of IP devices as well as conducts fault detection and network troubleshooting. "Over the course of three months, AviatCare support professionals visited more than 900 MTN Ghana sites to ensure network visibility to ProVision by checking all critical equipment cabling," says Deon Meyer, Aviat Networks' Ghana country manager.
