Two Rutgers-Newark Alumni Among the 2013 Inductees for the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEWARK, N.J., Feb. 4 -- Rutgers University issued the following news: Five outstanding Rutgers alumni will join the ranks of esteemed doctors, best-selling authors, scholars, humanitarians and actors as they become part of the Rutgers University Hall of Distinguished Alumni -- one of the most prestigious honors that the university can bestow upon its graduates.



This year's honorees have made range of differences in the world, from inspiring the imagination of children and being transformational leaders in a variety of diverse industries, to being recognized for some of the highest international achievements.

On May 4, the Rutgers University Alumni Association will induct the following honorees: Mark Angelson RC'72, NLAW'75 Hometown: Caldwell, New Jersey Angelson is the chair of NewPage Corporation. For decades, he has been a transformational leader in diverse roles that include the deputy mayor of Chicago; chair and/or CEO of RR Donnelley, Moore Corporation, Moore Wallace, and WorldColor Press; and international lawyer. He is also the chair of the Institute of International Education's Scholar Rescue Fund and a teacher at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management.


Carli Lloyd RC'06 Hometown: Delran, New Jersey Lloyd a professional soccer player, is best known for scoring the game-winning goals for the U.S. Women's National Team during the gold-medal matches of the 2012 and 2008 Summer Olympics. The center midfielder is Rutgers' all-time leader in points (117) and goals (50) and has since played for various clubs in the Women's Professional Soccer league.

Randal Pinkett ENG'94 Hometown: East Windsor, New Jersey Pinkett is the founder, chair and CEO of BCT Partners, a national consulting firm that delivers program management, research and evaluation, technical assistance and IT services in the areas of housing, community, and economic development, children and families, education and health. An entrepreneur since his youth, he is a sought-after public speaker and author.

Joseph Rigby SBC'79 Hometown: Sicklerville, New Jersey Rigby is the chair, president, and CEO of Pepco Holdings Inc., one of the largest energy delivery companies in the Mid-Atlantic region, serving 2 million customers. Named CEO of the Year by Electric Light & Power magazine in 2012, he heads the Fortune 500 company that is a pioneer leader in smart-grid technology.

Judith Viorst NCAS'52 Hometown: Newark, New Jersey Viorst is an acclaimed author whose 19 children's books and 17 adult works include the American Library Association Notable Children's Book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and the New York Times best-seller Necessary Losses. For 25 years she was a contributing editor at Redbook magazine and has written the book and lyrics for three musicals.

Created in 1987, the Hall of Distinguished Alumni recognizes graduates who, through their superlative achievements in professional and civic life, have brought honor to themselves and their alma mater.

Only 208 Rutgers alumni have been inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni. Previous recipients have included chef and restaurateur Mario Batali, actor James Gandolfini, author Janet Evanovich, late actor and humanitarian Paul Robeson, and Nobel Prize winners Selman Waksman and Milton Friedman.

The induction will take place on May 4, 2013, at the Heldrich Hotel, in downtown New Brunswick. The Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni Awards Gala will feature live entertainment, multimedia presentations, dinner and dancing. Tickets to the gala and awards ceremony are $125 per person.
