"The actions of the shooter at Sandy Hook come from a law- abiding citizen. It wasn't a criminal that done that. That was a law- abiding citizen that went to shooting ranges and done all the American things and with stars and stripes and patriotic every step of the way. And yet her son did that. Now, I don't know how to put it out there any plainer than some people are being punished for the actions of a few. And for that they want to give gun owners a bad name everywhere or give crooks a bad name and say our crooks are even worse than what they are just because we've got lawmakers that don't have a clue." "If I heard him correctly, Barack Obama said in the 30 days after the Connecticut shootings, 900 people had died from gunfire in the United States. However, during that same period, 27 persons per day, on average, died from drunken drivers and 48 persons per day died from either misusing or abusing prescription drugs. The gunfire average would be about 30 per day during this period of time -- nearly equal to the number of people dying at the hands of drunk drivers and less than persons dying from misuse or abuse of prescription drugs. Do we have a situation where we are using a political point to persecute one situation and using a social acceptance situation to ignore the others " "I have two comments for Trib Talk. These folks who complain about people calling in and bickering and complaining about petty things have forgotten the whole idea of Trib Talk is just to get it off your chest. My suggestion to them is stop reading Trib Talk. I find it entertaining and interesting. Some views I agree with, some are outrageous, some are preposterous and some I have to laugh and shake my head. My second thought is: I'm a gun owner, and I can't understand why those who are just stomping their feet about some of the proposals. The president is not asking that all gun owners give their rights up to guns. As a gun owner, I do believe we need to have more laws so guns don't fall into the wrong hands. If you're a law-abiding citizen and you truly use your guns for hunting or shooting competitions and you don't have a record, what's the problem " "I certainly expect any Boone County officers coming into Columbia will respect the hard-fought-for community policies of Columbia concerning use of the potentially lethal Taser weapons." "I am reading about the intruder training that is popular. It gives suggestions on 1) to flee, 2) to hide, or 3) to stand up and fight. It also says the intruder is not expecting people to offer resistance and at the first sign of resistance, the intruder will either give up or kill themselves or end it somehow and leave themselves. This should be option No. 1. My suggestion is that there should be a new tax in Columbia that any household in Columbia that does not own a firearm and know how to use it should be issued a tax because that residence puts a heavy burden on the police and the responding of the police." "People are clambering to put the Bible into the schools, but if they take the time to read the Bible, they'd realize it's full of killing, extermination, rape, murder, orgies. I think we'd be better off putting the Kama Sutra in the schools." "Every year about 30,000 Americans are killed by guns, about 2,000 are killed with knives and about another 2,000 are killed with other weapons, including baseball bats. In terms of murder, 60 percent of all murders are committed with a gun, compared to 10 percent with knives and 10 percent with other weapons. I guess when somebody walks into a movie theater or a school with a knife or a baseball bat and kills dozens of people, we should talk about banning knives and baseball bats."
