Jan 31, 2013 (Labor Department Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- ETA News Release: [01/31/2013] Contact Name: Gloria Della or Laura McGinnis Phone Number: (202) 693-4679 or x4653 Release Number: 13-0124-SEA US Department of Labor to assist Oregon workers affected by Siltronic Corp. layoffs WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $529,837 National Emergency Grant to assist about 150 workers affected by the closure of Siltronic Corp. in Portland, Ore., which manufactures silicon wafers for computers, smartphones, navigation systems and similar devices.



"The strength of the U.S. economy depends upon workers getting the skills they need and being ready to respond quickly to market and business changes," said acting Secretary of Labor Seth D. Harris. "As our economy continues its recovery, this Labor Department grant will help eligible workers find new jobs in the area." This grant, awarded to the Oregon Department of Community College and Workforce Development, will provide training and supportive services to workers in conjunction with services they will receive as a result of their eligibility for Trade Adjustment Assistance benefits.
