Global tablet computer shipments hit record high in Oct.-Dec. period(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK, Jan. 31 -- (Kyodo) _ Global shipment of tablet computers hit a quarterly record 52.5 million units in the October-December period of 2012, the U.S. research firm International Data Corp. said Thursday based on preliminary data. The leader Apple shipped a total of 22.9 million units including the iPad mini launched in November, but its market share slid to 43.6 percent from 46.4 percent in the July-September period due to strong competition, it said. South Korea's Samsung followed, increasing shipments 260 percent to 7.9 million units with a 15.1 percent share. Third-ranked Amazon.com delivered 6 million units.
