BRIEF: Robotics competition coming to Myrtle Beach Convention Center

MYRTLE BEACH, Jan 30, 2013 (The Sun News (Myrtle Beach - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Nine Horry County schools will be among the 65 teams of high school students from 12 states and Brazil competing in the 10tha annual Palmetto Regional First Robotics Competition, according to a press release.

The event is taking place Feb. 28 through March 2 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

The challenge for the 65 teams competing is to build and program a working robot from a 75-pound box of electronic parts, gears and other pieces without any instructions.

Each team received their box on Jan. 5 and had to complete their robot in six weeks.

This year's robot challenge is Ultimate Ascent, in which the machines score points by throwing Frisbees into goals on a playing field, the release stated.
