NEC Wins Taiwan Strait Submarine Optical Cable Order


Jan 30, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Japan-based NEC Corporation announced today that it won the order for laying a total of 510km submarine optical cables leading from the principle island to the outlying islands of the Taiwan Strait in 13 months.



The order is from Taiwan-based largest operator Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd (CHT; NYSE: CHT).

NEC ranked No. 1 in global submarine cable market oriented to telecom operators, taking about 70% share in this market. The company has a ruling power in the Asia Pacific submarine cable market and once received submarine cable orders from many countries and regions. The Japan-based company also provided optical cables for cross-sea optical cable project of the Taiwan Strait in 2000.
