Recycle your unwanted electronics Saturday in Fairview Heights


Jan 18, 2013 (Belleville News-Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Kiwanis Club of Fairview Heights will hold an electronics recycling event Saturday.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the south side of Office Max at 6525 North Illinois St.

"We will accept anything with an electrical cord," said Jerry Vallina, coordinator of the event. "It doesn't matter the size or what it is. Just as long as it once ran off of electricity. If you don't want it any more, we can take it off your hands." Among those items being accepted are: Computer parts, computers towers, modems, operating system software, keyboards, mice, hard drives, printers, memory, laptops, laptop AC adapter power supply, floppy drivers, CD ROMS, CRTs, computer fans, LCD screens, cell phones, batteries, power supplies, CPU, speakers, battery backups, electric motors, wire, DVD players, electric weed eaters, blowers, lawn edgers, trimmers and electric lawn mowers.



Televisions also will be accepted, but for a disposal fee.

Monitors, LCD screens and older televisions with picture tubes will be charged a processing fee of $5 for up to a 19 inches or $10 for LCD screens and TVs larger than 19 inches.


Large appliances such as refrigerators, washers/dryers, dishwashers, freezers, microwaves, blenders, toasters, bread machines and hair dryers also will be accepted.

The items will be recycled and all funds raised by the Kiwanis during the events will be used to support local charities.
