4 P.M.Minor injuries reported in Greater Clark bus accident

CLARKSVILLE, Jan 17, 2013 (The Evening News and the Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A bus accident sent two children to the hospital with minor injuries at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Erin Bojorquez, supervisor of communications and public relations for Greater Clark County Schools, said in an email that bus 13-J was hit by a flatbed semi-truck on Broadway in Clarksville. The truck hit the passenger side of the bus near the rear wheel.

Two students were taken to Clark Memorial Hospital and the driver was transported to Norton Hospital in Louisville as a precautionary measure. The students and driver were treated and released by the end of the day.

The bus had 11 River Valley Middle School students on board.

Bojorquez said in another email that the driver, who she would not identify, has had three other incidents resulting in noninjury property-damage claims. She said the driver is an employee of the fleet contract owner, K&T Inc., and not technically employed with the district. She said investigating officials showed the driver was not at fault in Thursday's crash.

However, she also said the driver won't transport the district's students until it completes its own investigation to see whether they'll continue to use the driver.

"The safety of students is Greater Clark County Schools' top priority and parents should be confident utilizing the district's transportation services," a release from Bojorquez said.
