Aptidata Spearheads the Establishment of First Big Data Test Platform for Georgia Startups

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ATLANTA, GA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/15/13 -- Aptidata today announced the availability of the first scalable, high performance test platform that will enable Georgia startups to test their capabilities within the Big Data space without having to purchase expensive hardware. The idea originated at the Big Data Roundtable, an Atlanta Technology Development Center (ATDC) special interest group founded by Aptidata CEO Tom Lamar and is made possible through the contribution of free hardware and systems from IT vendors Coraid and Apto Solutions.

"We saw a need among startups to test their models and ideas," said Tom Lamar, CEO of Aptidata. "The smaller startups in particular lack the funding to purchase the hardware necessary to run tests. But now they can with this new resource," he added.

The platform is made possible through generous contributions of equipment and systems from Apto Solutions and Coraid. Jeff Jones of Apto Solutions added, "We have a vested interest in helping new technology companies grow and wanted to help them test their capabilities." "Coraid Ethernet SAN solutions combine the simplicity and economics of DAS with the scalability and data protection of shared storage," said John Gilmartin, vice president of product marketing at Coraid. "This helps reduce costs and eliminate operational complexity in Big Data deployments." The platform will be made available at no cost to ATDC member companies and Georgia Tech research faculty.

"ATDC strives to offer its members the most advanced technology available while remembering that our companies are resource constrained," said Stephen Fleming, vice president of Georgia Tech's Enterprise Innovation Institute. "This partnership will help ATDC companies explore tools for Big Data development," he added.
