Global PC Shipments 2012 Q4 Hit 89.8mn


Jan 11, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- The global shipments of PCs reached 89.8 million units in the fourth quarter of 2012, slipping 6.4% year on year, worse than the estimated 4.4%, according to "Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker" issued by IDC.



Speaking of the world's five major PC manufacturers, Hewlett-Packard (HP, NYSE: HPQ) sold 15 million PCs in the fourth quarter of 2012, with its market share increasing to 16.7% but shipments decreasing slightly. Lenovo Group Limited (SEHK: 0992) ranked No.2 with 14.1 million in shipments and a market share of 15.7%, indicating an increase in both shipment and market share on a year-on-year basis. The No.3 Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL) shipped 9.4 million PCs and took a market share of 10.6%. Acer Inc. and ASUSTEK Computer Inc. (ASUS) ranked No.4 and No.5 with 6.9 million and 6.6 million in shipments, respectively.

Of the five major manufacturers, Lenovo and ASUS saw growth in both shipments and market share, while those of Dell and Acer declined remarkably.
