Augusta man, 23, who shot videos of girls remains in jail

Jan 10, 2013 (The Augusta Chronicle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- An Augusta man remains jailed one month after police discovered videos of at least 100 girls that had been taken at public areas across the area.

Richmond County sheriff's Investigator Mark Dobbins said special duty officers at Augusta Mall were alerted to Adam Mizell on Dec. 2 when a woman reported seeing him taking photos of girls.

Mizell, 23, insisted to officers that he had not been taking photos, but had been using his cellphone to make a call. Officers, however, discovered that the "cellphone" was actually a small video camera.

Dobbins said Mizell was arrested immediately on an unrelated warrant.

On the camera, investigators discovered videos of at least 100 girls.

On Dec. 14, investigators added a charge of criminal attempted child molestation.

Dobbins said Mizell had been collecting the footage for about a year and had been using it for "his own sexual gratification." Investigators said it appeared that Mizell had been following girls around at the mall and various other unidentifiable locations across Augusta and making videos of their buttocks and crotches. Dobbins said none of the footage occurred in dressing rooms and restrooms. All the girls were clothed and probably unaware they were being recorded.

So far, investigators have been able to positively identify only one of the girls.

Dobbins said there will likely be more girls as investigators continue to look at the suspect's other devices, including his laptop.

"There will be a lot more in-depth investigation," Dobbins said.
