New E-Book Offers Advice to Adult Learners by Adult Learners

Today's growing population of adult learners are fast becoming experts at balancing work, family and a college education. When Post University launched its Advice to Your Former Self Facebook Contest, more than 350 campus-based and online adults learners from around the country submitted stories of adversity, determination, inspiration, and hope. The 30 best stories have been compiled in a new e-book titled, "The Adult Learner Survival Guide: Wisdom, Inspiration, and Advice for Moms, Dads, Military Personnel, and Other Working Adults," available for free now.

"The Adult Learner Survival Guide" includes advice from 30 adult learners who are attending or have attended universities throughout the country and have experienced some common-and not so common-challenges in their educational endeavors. The 57-page e-book is packed with motivation, ideas, and pointers that adult learners can use to help get the most out of their education while juggling the rest of life's responsibilities.

"Oneof the most important factors for success among adult learners is having a strong support network," says Frank Mulgrew, President of the Online Education Institute of Post University, which is home to more than 14,000 adult students. "We have always been inspired by how much our students support one another, whether they're enrolled in face-to-face or online classes. This e-book pulls together advice from adult learners who wanted to offer their support and share their stories of triumph with other current and future adult students."

The adult learners featured in the e-book make up one of the fastest growing student segments in the U.S. Between 2008 and 2019, enrollment in degree-granting institutions is projected to increase 28 percent for students who are 25 to 34 years old, and 22 percent for students who are 35 years old and over, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). This exceeds the 12 percent projected increase in "traditional" college students, aged 18 to 24.

"'The Adult Learner Survival Guide' showcases a cross-section of the modern American student population," says Mulgrew. "Our e-book demonstrates the power inherent in a new model of higher education focused on supporting students of all ages, and underscores the need to make it possible for anyone to be a successful lifelong learner. We hope this e-book will help new generations of adult learners better succeed in their educational endeavors and achieve their life goals."

The contest was open to all adult learners enrolled in traditional campus-based or fully online programs around the country.
