MRV releases new optical interconnect solutionJan 09, 2013 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- MRV Communications, Inc., a provider of optical communications network infrastructure equipment, has announced the release of a 40Gbps optical interconnect solution. MRV's new 40G Fiber Driver module enables the interconnection of metro facilities for increased bandwidth and to conserve fiber. The new 40G Fiber Driver module allows facilities to increase the connection distance from the industry standard few hundred meters to 10 - 15 kilometers. It also reduces latency and increases processing power to meet the requirements of new cloud-based and data-intensive applications, the company said. To better help MRV's customers reach longer distances and maximize bandwidth, the new 40G Fiber Driver module (EM316-2QSFP-40G) will enable media conversion and distance extension. As with the rest of the Fiber Driver product family, the new 40G module reduces power consumption compared to other industry approaches. The new 40G module also offers enhanced management capabilities. Each channel has built-in pseudo random bit sequence (PRBS) testing capabilities which reduces the need for external test equipment and enables the simultaneous testing of all optical channels. This saves users time compared to testing each channel individually. Other management features of the module include digital diagnostics, link integrity notification and loopback management which are available with either the command line interface or through a GUI with MRV's management software, the company added. "The Fiber Driver product line offers the smallest footprint and lowest power consumption of any comparable WDM platform. The addition of the 40Gbps module with its unique management and testing capabilities gives our customers a cost-effective option for very high bandwidth interconnection between facilities," said John Golub, vice president of Global Product Line Management for MRV.
