BRIEF: Police seek armed robber who posed as store employee at Sawgrass Mills

SUNRISE, Jan 04, 2013 (Sun Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Police on Friday released a surveillance photo of the getaway car used by an armed robber at Sawgrass Mills mall.

Posing as a new store employee at the Polo Ralph Lauren store, a man pulled a gun on the store manager, demanded money from the safe and restrained the manager before leaving with an undisclosed amount of money, Officer Cindi McCue said in a press release.

The robbery happened at about 5 p.m. on Oct. 31, she said.

When the manager let the man in the store, he produced a semi-automatic handgun and made his demands. Before leaving, he restrained the manager with zip tie-type restraints and removed the surveillance equipment from the store, McCue said.

He drove away in a newer model black four-door Nissan Altima with dark-tinted windows, McCue said.

Police describe the man as being in his 30s, about 5-feet, nine-inches and about 150 pounds. He had medium-length hair and wore a brown hoodie, green polo shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers with black stripes.

Investigators urge anyone with information about the robber or his vehicle to call Detective Lawrence at 954-746-3548 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
