(AME Info (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jan. 03--MICROSOFT ACQUIRES START-UP TO BOOST XBOX UNIT: Microsoft Corp has acquired a small home-entertainment technology start-up to boost its Xbox unit, Wall Street Journal has reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The company, id8 Group R2 Studios Inc., was created in May 2011 by entrepreneur Blake Krikorian, who will be joining the software giant with a small team. As part of the deal, Microsoft also acquired some patents owned by the start-up related to controlling electronic devices. Prior to the acquisition, the Silicon Valley-based business also talked to Google Inc. and Apple Inc. about a possible deal, the sources said.
GOOGLE ORGANISES SEMINAR FOR SAUDI FEMALE DEVELOPERS: Google Inc. has held the first workshop for female Google developers in Dhahran at the Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Saudi Gazette has reported. The workshop focused on new technical and programming topics to encourage young women to be creative and innovative, with special emphasis given to entrepreneurship and technology, said the head of Dhahran's Google Developers Group, Fatima Alabdrab Al-Nabi.
