Police investigate armed robbery

Jan 03, 2013 (Kokomo Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Kokomo police are on the lookout for a man who robbed a credit union Thursday morning.

Officers were dispatched at 11:09 a.m. to Kokomo Heritage Federal Credit Union, 901 S. Courtland Ave., on the report of an armed robbery.

Witnesses told police a man walked into the bank armed with a semi-automatic handgun demanding money.

After taking an undisclosed amount of money, the man was seen running west from the bank.

Officers set up a perimeter around the bank in search of the suspect. A K-9 unit also was called to assist in the search.

As of noon, the man remained at large.

Witnesses described the man as a white male standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a dark-colored jacket, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a green baseball-style cap.

The man's description, police said, is similar to the description of a man involved in a Dec. 28 armed robbery at Star Financial Bank, 1708 E. Markland Ave.

In the Dec. 28 hold-up, witnesses gave a similar description except that the man was wearing a mask that made him resemble an older man.

In Thursday's holdup, the man had a dark-colored scarf covering his face, according to police reports.

Anyone with further information about these robberies should contact Sgt. Doug Stout at 765-456-7353, or the KPD Hotline at 765-456-7017.
