CensusInfo software to help disseminate census data on internet [Chandigarh] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CHANDIGARH: A new software of the census department, "CensusInfo Module" in the workshop "India in Transition - An Insight from Census 2011 Data" at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Public Administration, Sector 26 Chandigarh was introducted on Thursday.

United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in partnership with Unicef and UNFPA, has developed this software package - CensusInfo - to help disseminate census data on the web and CD-ROM.

One of the major feedbacks obtained after the conduct of house-listing operations in 2000 was to optimize the advantage of using the data collected in censuses through appropriate dissemination and analysis mechanisms.

For census data to be truly useful, it needs to be easily accessible via the Internet and access to data should be provided in an interactive manner along with tools for visualization and analysis.

The CensusInfo software is being provided as an effective data dissemination tool.

This workshop was attended by census data users, officials from various government departments, NGOs and research scholars, academicians and media persons.

TN Bindhyeshwari, director, census operations, Chandigarh was present on the occasion.
