Invisible eye to keep power connections in good health [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]

(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) "Soon, your electricity connections will have an invisible eye. The Jaipur Discom will install a GPS system in the electricity connection boards at the houses. The GPS system will benefit the discom as well as the consumer by automatically detecting and locating any fault in the electricity connection.

The early detection will considerably reduce the time taken in rectifying the fault. With the help of the GPS device, the discom officials will be able to locate the fault from their office itself. Thus, they won't have to manually detect the fault. All this will save discom's time, manpower and resources in maintenance works in the city.

Moreover, the GPS device will also help in checking power thefts which often go unchecked for the want of monitoring by the officials. The consumers too won't be able to tamper with their meters and power connections. As soon as something of this nature will occur, the GPS device will detect it. Superintending engineer (IT) of Jaipur Discom PK Gemini said that the way one is able to view houses on Google maps, in almost the same way, electricity connections would be visible making it easier for the discom to manage these connections.

"This is technically known as mapping and will help us keep an eye on electricity connections through GPS devices. It will be a part of our reform process in the power sector," said Gemini. However, this device will be installed in the new connections only and not be added to the older ones. " Credit:DNA Correspondent (c) 2012 @ 2012 DILIGENT MEDIA CORPORATION LTD. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
