Kansas City Veterinarian Uses Facebook to Stay Connected With Pet Owners

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Dec 23, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Animal Clinic of Boardwalk Square in Kansas City, MO announced that the practice is taking an active role on Facebook as well as other social media sites. The animal clinic is using social media to enhance communication with pet owners and stay connected. The practice routinely shares seasonal care tips, veterinary health news, blog articles and other important information. The veterinarians are also encouraging pet owners to use Facebook and social media to ask pet care questions and share their experiences with the veterinary hospital and other pet owners.

Veterinary hospitals across the country are finding new ways to educate pet owners about animal care. The veterinary team at Animal Clinic of Boardwalk Square is capitalizing on this trend by using social media sites, like Facebook, to connect with pet owners.

"If a pet is healthy, we may only see the pet once a year for a check-up and vaccination boosters," said Kansas City veterinarian Dr. Billie Deam. "However, there is a lot of important information to be shared with pet owners throughout the year. Facebook and social media make it easy for us to stay connected. These sites naturally complement our mission to educate and empower pet owners to provide the best possible pet care." The animal hospital team says they first began using Facebook as a way to quickly communicate critical veterinary care news, such as a pet food recall.

"The Facebook newsfeed makes sharing urgent news easy," said Dr. Deam. "A single posting allows us to reach hundreds of our pet owners in a matter of minutes." The Kansas City veterinarian has been expanding her practice's Facebook presence, taking advantage of the medium's accessibility.

"Virtually all of our pet owners are on Facebook," said Dr. Deam. "We are encouraging them to follow our practice on Facebook and join the conversation. Pet owners can ask questions about holistic and acupuncture services. They can learn more about dog and cat surgery, pet dentistry and other services at our practice. We are excited about Facebook's ability to foster an ongoing dialogue with pet owners." Most recently, the animal hospital has been using Facebook to help pet owners prepare for the upcoming winter weather. Dr. Deam and her team have been sharing winter seasonal care tips, as well as tips for keep pets safe during holiday celebrations.

"Everything from holiday lights to dry Christmas tree needles can pose a health risk for pets during the holidays," said Dr. Deam. "We are sharing holiday and winter care tips on Facebook. Our goal is to remind pet owners about the best ways to keep their pets safe this holiday season and reduce the risk for health emergencies."
