BRIEF: Taxi driver critically hurt in crash with trash hauler

HYANNIS, Dec 21, 2012 (Cape Cod Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A truck hauling a Dumpster collided with a Town Taxi cab on Thursday afternoon, seriously injuring the cab driver.

The driver was pinned in the car, Hyannis fire Capt. Hans Kristofferson said, and two doors had to be cut off to free the man.

The accident happened at about 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of South and School streets.

The driver was taken to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis with "the potential for life-threatening" injuries, Kristofferson said. He was stable when they transported him, but there was concern the man's condition might decline because of the heavy driver-side damage to the car, he said.

There was no one else in the taxi, and the driver of the Pina Sanitation truck was uninjured, Kristofferson said.

Barnstable police are investigating the accident.
