Samsung Refrigerators On Top in Enervee's Real-Time Personal Energy Efficiency Ranking

Santa Monica, CA, Dec 21, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Enervee(TM) the world's first personal energy efficiency scoring platform, introduces the Enervee(TM) Score report for refrigerators.

Is now a good time to replace an aging refrigerator Enervee's latest report "How Do the Top Refrigerator Brands Rank on Energy Efficiency" has the answer. It compares the energy efficiency of over 700 fridges from all of the top brands. Samsung is the energy efficiency leader receiving the "Platinum" award based on having the highest average Enervee Score of 68 across all of its refrigerators (Samsung also received "Platinum" on Enervee's TV ranking). The "Gold" award was given to LG and the "Silver" award given to Frigidaire.

Besides ranking the top brands, Enervee also shows how purchase price is not always the best way to pick a new refrigerator. A comparison of an LG 25 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator and a Whirlpool 25 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator highlights the potential to save $769 on lifetime electricity costs (12 years on average) by picking the LG model. Even though the purchase price of the LG fridge is more expensive than the Whirlpool fridge, the LG model provides more than five hundred dollars in overall savings.

On average, top freezer fridges are often more efficient than bottom freezer, french door, or side-by-side models. The important takeaway is that a fridge's energy consumption is highly correlated with its freezer size, since the freezer section consumes significantly more power than the fresh food section per cu. ft. of volume. "With 10 million refrigerators sold in the US every year we can save $4.3 billion over the next 5 years in electricity cost by choosing desired models with the highest Enervee Score," said Enervee CEO Matthias Kurwig.

"Score my Fridge" To figure out whether it is the right time to buy a new refrigerator, Enervee has released a "Score my Fridge" app (enervee.com/myfridge) that scores the energy efficiency of fridges dating all the way back to the 1980s. By selecting a fridge's brand and model number, it is scored from 0 to 100 (best) and compared versus the average score of all fridges on the market. The fridge's type, size, and energy consumption are then fed into Enervee's recommendation engine, providing a list of similar but more efficient fridges.

Coming soon are energy efficiency scoring apps for dishwashers, washers & dryers, computers, and video gaming consoles.

Partnering Via it's API (application programming interface) Enervee is partnering with merchants, media and manufacturers to provide consumers, business and government better information about energy cost and consumption of electronics and appliances.

About Enervee Enervee(TM) is the world's first personal energy efficiency scoring platform. The Enervee(TM) Score makes it easy for consumers, businesses and governments to purchase appliances and electronics that save energy, save money and help our planet. Enervee was founded by two friends, Matthias Kurwig and Don Epperson, in the summer of 2010 while both were planning to buy energy efficient appliances for their new homes. That simple task turned out to be very challenging as it required searching through 18 different data sources to be able to truly compare the energy efficiency of TVs, Refrigerators, Washing Machines, and other household electronics and appliances. This began a quest to create a platform which could automatically rank products and people based on their energy efficiency - the outcome of which was the Enervee(TM) Score. Enervee has a simple mission - to make it easier for you to find the products that save energy, save you money, and help the planet.
