City of Tulsa's chief information officer resigns

Dec 21, 2012 (Tulsa World - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The city of Tulsa's chief information officer has resigned effective Dec. 31.

Tom Golliver has been on paid administrative leave since October.

City Manager Jim Twombly told the Tulsa World on Thursday that firms are being interviewed to conduct a top-down review of the Information Technology Department.

A firm should be hired to commence with the review by Feb. 1, Twombly said. The budget for the review is about $135,000.

"The review will be a broad look at how the department is organized, the services it provides, and look at the hardware and software we have -- what needs to be upgraded and the costs involved," he said.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett has said the process could lead to some of the department's functions being privatized.

Twombly would not comment about the resignation of Golliver, who was removed from his post after a misinterpreted hacking scare of a city computer server in September. As a result, the city's Web functions were down for several weeks.

Also, letters were sent to 90,000 people who had applied for jobs or made crime reports online to warn them that their personal information might have been compromised.

It turned out that the breach was from a third-party firm the city had hired to test the network for security vulnerabilities.

Twombly said the job of chief information officer and Information Technology Department director will be posted for applicants at the start of the year. Golliver's annual salary is $138,405.

Police Maj. Jonathan Brooks will continue to lead the department in the meantime, Twombly said.
