UTC Aerospace Systems Technology Supported Royal Navy's Successful Security Operations

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- UTC Aerospace Systems provided a number of Maritime Imagery Manipulation and Storage (MAInMAST) systems to the UK Royal Navy. This system is unique in its ability to provide accurate, near real-time threat analysis. MAInMAST, deployed by the Royal Navy in support of the Olympics, contributed to the successful provision of maritime security for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, allowing timely access to accurate intelligence and improved situational awareness. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) At only the size of a standard briefcase and resembling a laptop, MAInMAST is housed in a server rack or in its own ruggedized case and can be deployed onboard a ship, land vehicle or a ground based facility. Accepting information from a variety of sensors, MAInMAST quickly transmits data using a live data link for immediate analysis and early, effective decision-making. Advanced electro-optic sensors such as those currently in use on Royal Navy helicopters send critical information to the system. Less critical information can be retrieved from the sensor's data brick as a helicopter returns to the ship.

The system software allows data collection directly from the operators' heads-up display. This 'screen-scrape', a new form of immediate information retrieval is then formed into a data packet and catalogued for subsequent storage and retrieval.

"This system, together with the UTC Aerospace Systems Merlin exploitation application software, has also created a highly effective reference library, enabling officials to track and show evidence of illicit activity; including terrorism, narcotics smuggling and piracy. The MAInMAST system stores data based on NATO standards held within a shared reference library, allowing information to be disseminated across wide-area networks or held in a central archive for future use," said Sam Macleod, managing director, ISR Systems.
