LaRouche supporters visit countyGIBSONVILLE, Dec 20, 2012 (Times-News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Margaret Scialdone cut straight to the chase. "Welcome, sir," she said as a man approached. "Would you like to help us impeach Obama " Scialdone and a trio of other volunteers from the LaRouche Political Action Committee were in the area Thursday. Members promote Lyndon LaRouche and his ideas. (For more on those visit: www.LaRouchePAC.com.) Scialdone and another volunteer were on The Town Green in the center of Gibsonville. She said they were initially situated on a public walkway in front of the town's post office, but moved to The Town Green after a police officer suggested they might be more visible there. Another pair of volunteers were located near the post office in the Village of Alamance. At both locations, tables were stacked with information concerning LaRouche and his beliefs -- which center largely around a national banking system, global economic infrastructure projects and reform of the world financial system. Followers of LaRouche are proponents of nuclear energy. Scialdone referred to those opposed to the power source as "greenies." Scialdone is a resident of Hackensack, N.J. She said she's a full-time volunteer with the LaRouche Political Action Committee, an organization headquartered in Leasburg, Va. Scialdone said she spends much of the year traveling the country doing what she was doing Thursday -- spreading the word of LaRouche and his beliefs. "We're in the biggest crisis in our nation's history," Scialdone warned. She said there are numerous other teams like her's that travel the country spreading the word of LaRouche. Scialdone said some work constantly in the nation's biggest cities. "We're sort of like missionaries," she said. A sign Scialdone carried read: "Stop World War III. Impeach Obama." The sign drew a fair amount of attention -- prompting numerous motorists to toot their horns and wave, though most seemed to have no idea why Scialdone was there. "It'd be nice to do, but I don't see it happening," one woman who'd rolled down her window shouted as she passed, apparently referring to Obama's impeachment. To those who approached for more information, Scialdone didn't hold back. "This guy is a monster who's destroying the country," she said to one couple, referring to Obama. But followers of LaRouche don't assign their dislike of politicians to Obama. A cursory check of the Internet revealed they also protested George W. Bush and Dick Cheney during the previous administration. The group has a long history of discontent with elected leaders. Scialdone admitted she and most other LaRouche backers would likely also be protesting Mitt Romney had he won the November election. An information sheet that Scialdone distributed had a headline reading: "Why Obama must be removed." On its back it had a picture of the president on which someone had drawn a Hitler-like moustache.
