City of Richardson deploys Alvarion's wireless municipal network

Dec 20, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Alvarion Ltd., a provider of optimized wireless broadband solutions addressing the connectivity, coverage and capacity challenges of public and private networks, has announced the deployment of a wireless municipal network with the City of Richardson, Texas.

The City deployed an Alvarion Smart City solution in the 4.9 GHz licensed public safety frequency that will improve the quality of life for residents and for the huge number of commuters that enter the nation's Telecom Corridor daily. Alvarion's BreezeMAX Extreme solution was selected for its unmatched reliability and operational efficiency demonstrated throughout the City's proof of concept process.

"During our requisite proof of concept process we were originally looking at various mesh solutions. We quickly realized that the only equipment that offered us the non-stop reliability we require is the BreezeMAX Extreme and so we went for an end-to-end Alvarion wireless broadband network," commented Steve Graves, Chief Information Officer with the City of Richardson. "We are very excited about this project and more so to be going ahead with an Alvarion solution that is founded on solid technologies working together to meet our ongoing needs and budgetary constraints." The Alvarion Smart City solution provides connectivity to the City's video surveillance network that delivers live feeds to police headquarters and to a 24-7 Emergency Operations Center. The high-quality feeds can also be viewed from any PC monitor within the public safety network. The network also supports the City's public safety radio applications. Alvarion's BreezeMAX Extreme base stations have been deployed on various water towers and tall buildings across the city to enable ubiquitous coverage.

The City of Richardson's intelligent transport system (ITS) supports various applications including: intersection controller data, GPS Time/NTP Time sync, traffic video surveillance, traffic counting equipment and remote viewing of traffic video detectors. In addition, the network provides hotspot backhauls.
