Brothers arrested for three armed robberies in Aberdeen

Dec 18, 2012 (The Aegis - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Two brothers from Havre de Grace and Aberdeen have been arrested and are being held without bail in connection with three armed robberies in Aberdeen, including one at the Days Inn on Saturday night.

Aberdeen police responded to an armed robbery at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the hotel in the 700 block of West Bel Air Avenue.

The motel clerk told them a black man about 6 feet tall, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and ski mask, entered the business, showed a handgun, announced a robbery and fled toward the AberdeenShoppingPlaza after getting money, according to a police press release.

Officers found a suspect fitting the description in that immediate area and arrested Timothy Bowman, 18, of the first block of East Bel Air Avenue, after he was identified in surveillance video taken during the robbery.

His brother, Michael A. Bowman, 22, of the 1200 block of Battery Drive in Havre de Grace, was also arrested after further investigation.

Besides the Days Inn robbery, they are accused in connection with robberies at the Clark Loan & Jewelry Shop on South Philadelphia Boulevard on Nov. 21 and the Cricket store on Middleton Lane on Nov. 30.

A 16-year-old girl from the 100 block of Farm Road in Aberdeen has also been charged as an accessory after the fact and has since been released to her parents, according to the press release.

The Bowman brothers were originally held on $500,000 bail each, but District Court Judge Lawrence Lanahan ordered them to be held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center after a bail review Monday.

Both are charged with three counts of armed robbery, three counts of robbery, three counts of theft, three counts use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and three counts of first-degree assault.

Public defender Sara Klemm said both brothers are single and have been in Maryland for 12 years.

Michael Bowman has three children, lives with his father in Havre de Grace, graduated from Havre de Grace High School and is unemployed, Klemm told the judge.

Timothy Bowman is expecting a child, lives in Aberdeen with his grandmother and is a student at the Arrow Center forEducation, where he is set to graduate in May. He was last working at Denny's in Edgewood.

Assistant state's attorney Trenna Manners asked for both to be held without bail. For Timothy Bowman, she pointed out he "worked in concert with three others in three armed robberies under a month." Anyone with further information on the cases is asked to call the Aberdeen Police Department, Criminal Investigations Section, 410-272-2121.
